DRC Indicator Dataset & Codebook Instructions: 2022 NSCH

Welcome!

From the Dataset Downloads page you can download a compressed folder containing micro data and supplemental materials, including the codebooks from the 2022 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH)*, assembled by the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI), Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health (DRC).

To begin using the dataset, follow these steps:

1. Click to download the folder in the format of your choice.

2. Save the compressed folder to a local computer.

3. Open the compressed folder and extract the dataset and other materials before attempting to open the dataset with statistical software.

4. Review information about the NSCH and the accompanying codebook prior to conducting your analysis. The Census Bureau has further documentation on methodology, here.

When using the Indicator Dataset created by the CAHMI DRC, please be sure to use the following citation in any publication, report or peer-reviewed journal article:

Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI) (2024). 2022 National Survey of Children's Health, [(SAS/SPSS/Stata)] Indicator Dataset. Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health supported by Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). Retrieved [mm/dd/yy] from childhealthdata.org

We encourage you to keep us informed about your publications and presentations based on these data. To facilitate that, the CAHMI will be contacting you in a few months. Since the main mission of the Data Resource Center is to facilitate dissemination and utilization of the results of the National Surveys, we are always delighted to be able to identify real-life examples of how planners, grant writers, researchers, and child health policy advocates are using survey results to promote better health and improve access to and quality of children’s health care services.

*If you have not already submitted a dataset request and signed Data Use Agreement to the Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health, please do so before downloading materials for this page. Information and request forms are available in the DRC's Request a dataset feature.

Thank you,

The Child & Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI), Data Resource Center (DRC)
